Terrors

There were signs
we knew
how far it would have been
in the dark we couldn’t rest
never thought of us returning

walked for miles
you knew
the journey is the reward
and they put our strength to test
and our limbs were burning

in the cold we called your name
and in the dark we called again
and while it stormed we tried to do the same
and did we want to cry in pain

there were stars
so few
our hearts they cut them out
our lights they put them out
and we knew we would never make it

there were signs
we knew
we were bound to die
and we marched our friends to death
and we just ignored their whining

in the cold we called your name
and in the dark we called again
and while it stormed we tried to do the same
and did we want to die in vain
